Scholarships are gifts of money that do not need to be repaid, provided the enrollment period is completed. Scholarship donors determine the individual criteria of the award(s), which may include financial need, merits and talents.

General Information

Scholarships count toward student’s overall financial resources. Federal regulations require scholarships be considered when calculating student’s financial aid award and eligibility. Therefore, scholarships may potentially reduce federal loans and/or work-study amounts.

In addition to the available scholarships posted on this site, students are encouraged to search using external websites like the ones listed below.

 

Scholarship Scams

Students and parents should be careful when searching for scholarships on the Internet. Please note that you should never have to pay to search for or receive scholarships.

The following are some common fraud warning signs and ways to report them to authorities.

Warning Signs

  • Must pay application, registration or other up front fees to receive scholarship information
  • Redemption fee for scholarship that you allegedly “won”
  • Have to pay a fee or invest in insurance, annuity or other in order to receive low-interest student loans or grants
  • Asking for confidential personal information, such as your credit card number, checking account, calling card number or social security number
  • Unsolicited offers
  • Guaranteed scholarships
  • Scholarship seminars as poorly concealed sales pitches
  • Incomplete contact information (missing phone numbers or P.O. box)

Cream City Foundation LGBTQ+ Scholarship Program

Criteria:

Southeastern Wisconsin residency

  • Graduated from a high school in Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, or Waukesha County; or
  • Have lived in Wisconsin at least one year prior to application deadline; or
  • Are attending an accredited Wisconsin post-secondary institution in Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, or Waukesha County.

LGBTQ+ community involvement

  • Primary consideration is given to students who are self-identified LGBTQ+, members of LGBTQ+ families, or straight allies.
  • Preference is further given to students with demonstrated commitment to public service that has been dedicated to equality, human rights, and social justice for all people, with emphasis on efforts within the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Students who have not had an opportunity to participate in these types of activities, but who demonstrate a desire to be supportive of these opportunities and goals in the future, will also be considered for the scholarship.

Pursuing post-secondary education

  • Students must either be enrolled and in good academic standing at an accredited post-secondary institution, or plan to enroll in such an institution in the 2017-2018 academic year.
  • Students must be pursuing G.E.D certification, undergraduate, professional, graduate, technical, or vocational program degrees.
  • Full-time enrollment is required for undergraduate students.
  • Part-time minimum enrollment (6 credits) is required for professional, graduate and postgraduate students, with at least 6 credits earned in degree program prior to application.

  • Exhibit a strong desire and the ability to complete a training and/or academic program
  • Have a definite plan to use the desired training to upgrade skills for career advancement, to train for a new career field, or to enter or reenter the job market
  •  Have sought services from a non-profit, domestic violence agency for a minimum of 6 consecutive months, and this agency is willing to act as a sponsor by mentoring and providing support to the student throughout her educational experience
